Teens who have grown up in orphanages need to be given an opportunity for higher education, so that they can become productive adults.  Whether they choose a trade school or college education, these kids deserve a chance to make their dreams come true...
"School"

We have a number of young people in the orphanages who are reaching the age and have earned the grades to qualify them to attend a trade school or college.

Peggy Gurrad is coordinating the Higher Education Sponsorship program.  Please e-mail her at peggy@gurrad.com  if you'd like to sponsor one of these bright young people.

New sponsors will get an information sheet and photo of the young person they'll be sponsoring, as soon as they are available.  School reports can also be sent as time goes along.

Tuition Fees for Higher Education

Fees will vary, depending on the type of college or trade school attended.  Below are some specific young people seeking sponsorship.

Students Seeking Sponsorships

We’re working on a project with Holt International, to make it possible for a young woman who grew up in the orphanage in NanChang to attend college.  She is attending JiangXi Normal University

The cost for FNU, attending JiangXi Normal University; including tuition, books and housing is US $1041 per year.

It looks like we're going to have up to 16 additional candidates for higher education during the Spring of 2004.  We'll keep you posted here and on the Orphanage Requests page as information becomes available.

Some Notes From Hopeful Students
PZH, who grew up in the orphanage in Guixi, has a dream to go to school and become a hair dresser.  Recently, he wrote, "Thank you so much for your support.  I promise to study even harder now, because of you."

One of his teachers wrote, "PZH's favorite subject is Math.  In his free time, he likes to play basketball and ping-pong.  He's a group leader and receives praise, encouragement and awards from his teachers.  He is out-going, active and does well in group activities."

G.H. is 18, attending civil affairs school and loves literature dancing and singing.

G.M. is attending civil affairs school and wants to continue her education.  She mentions that, "The natural scenery in this area is beautiful!" in her comments.

G.H. attends nursing school.  She mentions, "My wish is to be a good nurse, who can help others to keep their health."

G.C. is attending civil affairs school and studying computers.  In her note, she writes, "Thank you for your sponsorship."

G.B. is 17 and is learning electronic maintenance.  He writes, "I will work hard to master this skill and find a job with it to support myself."

G.L. is 17, has had excellent grades and recently passed her exam to allow her to move on to higher education.  To her sponsor, she wrote, "You are my courage."

G.Y. is 17 and attending hairdressing school, "my life's dream."

C.B.W. and C.Y. attend a special deaf boarding school that requires extra tuition support.

These kids are all in need of continuing tuition assistance.  Tuition fees range from $280 - $500.  We'll keep you posted about specific dollar amounts needed on our Orphanage Requests page, as they become available.
