| In Nanchang, two children who were previously stricken with polio have managed to go to school every day on crutches. These kids are determined to find some way to get an education. We're also determined to continue to find tuition sponsorships for these kids and others like them. You can help. | ||
| "CHS, who is in primary
school is such cute girl. She told us that she liked going to
school. She also likes dancing and loves to eat fruit.
She wrote "I Love You" in Chinese to you with her left hand (she is missing her right hand)." |

"This
is ZXY, who is the brother of ZWH.
He is cute and clever - and is a little shy. He told us that he
likes mathematics and drawing.
In the last middle-term exam, he got 85 in math. And his other subjects were nicely done, too." |

School Kids Graduate and Get Jobs!
Recently, two of our sponsored school kids from the orphanage in Guixi graduated and acquired jobs. GC, 20 years old, attended the Civil Affairs School and is now working at the Civil Affairs Bureau. GH, also 20 years old, went to school at the Jingdezhen Clinic School and is now working in the Medical Room at the orphanage in Guixi. Congrats to both of them! |
| We'd
like to invite you to visit our Hello

the children sponsored in school.
A Letter From An Adoptive Parent... "When we learned that our match was a five-year-old girl with hearing loss, we were concerned about so many aspects of her development. We were encouraged when we discovered, quite by accident, that Altrusa had arranged to sponsor Yi Wen Min in kindergarten. Upon our return to the States, we brought her into kindergarten in mid-year, even though we did not know the extent of her hearing loss for weeks afterward. It was immediately apparent that she understood what school meant, and what behaviors were expected in class. Her teacher quickly fell in love with her, and told us that she followed directions better than most of the English-speaking children. This teacher has become a strong advocate for keeping Meilee in the mainstream, and has prodded the school district to provide the extra help we need in language, speech, and hearing. We are convinced that the head start Altrusa provided for our daughter was a wonderful gift; what could have been an educational brick wall has become an open door because of this preparation. We will always be grateful to a special 'aunt' in Texas, and to Altrusa, for acting as the bridge between the sponsor and the daughter we had just realized was waiting for us in China." |
The Amity Foundation Teachers Program The Amity Foundation also has a Teachers Program, where teachers are sent to China to teach English, Japanese, or German. A typical Amity placement is in a college which prepares future middle school teachers, usually in a small or medium-sized city. In these schools, Amity teachers most often teach oral skills courses and/or writing, although there is variation from school to school. For further information about this program, please visit the Amity Foundation site.
